theuglytruth-ps-4Director: Robert Luketic

Cast: Katherine Heigl, King Leonidis, Rex

Stuff you need to know:  Its R for a reason… and as I said in the last post, just look at the poster.   Language is average, it’s the sexual innuendos and some key scenes that the kids probably shouldn’t ever see.

Who SHOULD see it:

–       I just realized that I don’t know what to write here

Who should NOT see it:

–       The kids… and maybe your mom

–       Yeah…still at a loss on filling this part in

What I think:  They say this is a “romantic comedy”.  There are funny parts, I suppose, but I think it only qualifies as a romantic comedy by default, there’s nothing else to call it, and because they had a great opportunity to teach a lesson and sort of make things right and they just never do.  The big message is buried in there somewhere so, there you go, romantic comedy.

Then there is Katherine Heigl who America apparently loves.  I think I sort of get it but I realize that the types of roles she chooses to be in, while she does a great job and has the comedic timing to pull it off, are just not my kind of movies.  I now instill a Heigl Caution Flag into the rating system.  HCF = movies that contain Katherine Heigl, contain mostly cheap and predictable sexual humor and are really just about eye candy.

You have seen this movie before, fairly predictable.  Not a lot put into the editing, music is just what is popular on the radio right now, nothing special for sets, acting, dialogue… just your basic movie.  I’m not saying its bad.  I didn’t dislike it, but its not very strong, you can wait for DVD or skip it.

Mandy’s Point System:  it gets a…. “well, ok then”

Would you buy it:  Nope

hangoverposter1Director:  Todd Phillips

Cast: Bradley Cooper, Nard Dog, Zach Galifianakis, Justin Bartha

Stuff you need to know:  Its called “The Hangover”, its set in Vegas, its about a bachelor party gone waaaay wrong, its rated R and look at that picture ß  If that doesn’t tell you what you need to know then… I can’t really help you.

Warning about the end credits, they are very graphic, as in pornographic.  A more specific explanation that doesn’t give away the movie but does give away the end credits is below,  I put it in “white” so highlight over it to read it:

At the end of the movie they realize they have a camera with photos from the evening that will shed a little more light on what they did.  It starts quick, you really don’t have time to escape before you see topless strippers and such (including Heather Graham), you see wedding chapel picts, partying in the room with many of the characters you met along the way, and when they were on Tyson’s property.  Somewhere in that montage are a series of photos that show the character “Alan” exposing himself in an elevator and an older lady…you don’t need to see it, it doesn’t change anything and its not any funnier or informative by watching it.

Who SHOULD see it:

–       Dudes – its definitely a guy movie

–       If you love Vegas

–       Those with a high toleration for the “F” word

–       If you really enjoy euphemisms

Who should NOT see it:

–       Your mom

–       A lot of people, really, I’d be very careful who I would recommend this to

–       Those with low toleration for the “F” word

–       Those with low toleration of “sexual humor”

What I think:  Not gonna lie, its funny, really funny.  I have to give credit to how creative this film actually is.  This is not your typical crass movie.  Yes, the innuendos, euphemisms, anatomy humor, sexual overtones are heavy… but not predictable.  There is actually some thought put into how its all delivered.  Additionally, these movies are usually low budget or just basic… not this one.  The cinematography, the acting, the lines, music, the story, timeline and how the shots were edited together… all well thought out and fresh – a new way to do each especially for a comedy and very well done.

Mandy’s Point System:  Good Christian Girl Points – negative 1 million.  Regular folk – 10 out of 10

Would you buy it:  No, but I’d see it again minus the credits.

hp6_main1sheet_domDirector:  duh, everyone knows this.

Cast:  you really should crawl back under your rock if you don’t know this.

Stuff you need to know:  I’ve tried… and I just can’t do it… it might have to do with this.

Who SHOULD see it:

–       The rest of the world

Who should NOT see it:

–       Me

What I think:  Look, if you have even an inkling of desire to see this film (or saw any of the others) you are going to see this movie anyway, so just go, what I say simply doesn’t matter.  In fact, even if you don’t like something about it (or it as a whole) you will convince yourself you do AND still see the next two.  My work here is done.

Mandy’s Point System:  They matter not.

Would you buy it:  No.
